Data is at the heart of every discussion tackling the latest in the telecoms industry and the prospects for the future. At the 11th Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit which was held in Dubai in December 2018, a panel entitled “Capacity and data traffic” addressed the effect data has had on the industry and how telcos have managed to embrace big data. Telecom Review managed to secure an interview with Sameh Sobhy, Vice President, Middle East & North Africa, PCCW Global to know more about his opinion on data increase and to discuss the benefits of the PEACE submarine cable system.


Ericsson is playing a key role globally and has signed a number of 5G commercial contracts and already announced some of those with 10 operators globally: T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and AT&T in USA, Vodafone UK, Swisscom, Wind3 and Telenor in Europe, and SK Telecom and Telstra.

Ericsson has enjoyed phenomenal growth and success in the Middle East and Africa region, largely driven by the dynamic leadership skills of Rafiah Ibrahim, who has been the President of Ericsson Middle East and Africa since 2017.

Telecom Review TV managed to secure an exclusive interview with Ibrahim in a bid to understand the reasons behind the resurgence Ericsson has had over the last twelve months.

In a brilliant and engaging interview, Ibrahim highlights how Ericsson is helping operators achieve digital transformation, its overall strategy regarding 5G in the region, what differentiates the vendor from its competitors and what are its plans in 2019.


5G will be deployed in Lebanon in the first half of 2019, announced Marwan Hayek, CEO and Chairman of Alfa managed by Orascom TMT in an exclusive interview with Telecom Review during the 11th edition of the Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit.


Telecom Review TV managed to secure an exclusive interview with MATRIXX Software CEO and co-founder Dave Labuda during his recent visit to their regional offices in Dubai. Labuda rose to prominence following the success of his company Portal Software in the late 90’s. He later sold the company to Oracle in 2006. In 2009, Labuda and fellow co-founder Jennifer Kyriakakis recognized that there was a gap in the market and started MATRIXX Software.

 


Debating whether 5G is an evolution or a revolution took center stage at the 11th Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit where a panel was dedicated to this particular topic along with 5G use cases and expectations for the deployment timeline. Telecom Review had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Mohamed Madkour, VP Global Wireless Networks Marketing and Solutions, Huawei to discuss the Chinese vendor’s approach to 5G in the Middle East.

Telecom Review managed to secure an exclusive interview with MYCOM OSI President and CTO, Mounir Ladki onsite at the Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit

 


The 2nd edition of Smart Cities World Forums was held on December 11th at the Meydan Hotel, Dubai, UAE, under the theme “Building the SMART Future”. The event offered the attendees the opportunity to know more about all aspects of smart cities and meet leaders in this particular field. Smart Cities World Forums spoke to Eng. Mohammed Alsharif, Program Director Madinah Smart City, AlMadinah AlMunawara Development Authority, who explained the Authority’s role in accelerating digital transformation in the Kingdom.


The 11th edition of Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit offered a great opportunity to meet regional and international industry C-level leaders. One of them was Chris de Josselin, CEO, StrataNet, who attended the event and took part in a panel that focused on cybersecurity measures in light of the increase in data traffic.
